Welcome And The Big Lie

Well, hello, this is early. It's episode 347, and I'm so glad that you're here today because we're talking about the big why that you tell yourself instead of actually starting your business or pursuing any dream that you have. You all know that I'm here because I am on a mission to help you actually move towards your dreams. And maybe that is your business or something else. We're going to end that. And you're not going to lie to yourself anymore. And you're going to be honest about what is going on. If you are new here, I'm so happy that you found this podcast. So this review is titled Business Confidence with a Heart, and it's from Kenya Renee. It says, I've been binge listening to your podcast for a week now, and you've inspired me so much in my tutoring business, which I've had since 2021. With the all of the information and insight I've gained from listening to you, I am now expanding my business with more confidence, clarity, and motivation. Your content has truly shifted my mindset and encouraged me to think bigger about what I can build. Thank you for pouring into aspiring business owners and educators like me. That is so sweet. Thank you so much, Kenya. And I wish you the very best with your business. I'm so, so excited for you. So if you've been listening a while and you have found this podcast valuable, I would love to read a review from you, what this podcast has meant to you. Maybe it's a certain episode, maybe it's just the overall feel, just like what Kenya said. It would mean the world to me. So thank you all so much. On to the episode.

The Excuse List That Sounds Legit

Well, hello, friends. I'm so happy. If you're listening to this episode right now, make sure you listen all the way through. Don't skip anything because this is so important. And what I want to share is that many of you have told yourself a lie. You've been lying to yourself. And you probably won't think about it that way when you hear me talking at first. Like when I start sharing some of these things that y'all say, you won't really see it as a lie. But today, I want you to know that it is. You're actually fibbing to yourself. Okay. You're doing this. Here are the excuses that I hear that many of you share with me and online and in my programs, people have shared these. These are the things that you say that keep you from starting your business. Now there's a long list. I'm going to read all of these because I want to see which ones resonate with you. Maybe you're on a walk, maybe you're driving, maybe you're doing the dishes, maybe you're sitting at your desk and you've been wanting to start your business or a dream that you've had, some kind of dream, something that you wanted to start. And you just keep saying these excuses. And they all add up to one big thing, but here they are. I'm going to read them first and then I'm going to summarize what this one big lie is. Okay. Here's the beginning of them. Number one, okay, I need to get my logo first. I need to get a really good logo. I need to get it right. I need a professional website before I put myself out there. I need better photos. I need to figure out my niche. Like who is really my target market? I do think that one's smart, by the way, to know your target market, but that shouldn't keep us from moving on to building our business, right? Um, I need to learn more about marketing. I need to take this other course. I need to figure out which platform I'm going to use for my website and all the things. I need to understand search engine optimization. I could start later when the kids go back to school, or I can start in January or when things slow down at work. Another grouping of things that y'all say is who am I to do this? Um, there are already people doing this better than me. I don't have enough followers yet. I need more experience first. And here's some more like practical ones. I just need to figure out like how to get an LLC. I need to learn how to do financials. I might need to take a class so I'm more business-minded. I need to save more money. I need to find the right business name. Although I do think your business name is important. Y'all, you can hear that these are actually real things that many of you experience and many of you say. But all of them are adding up, right? They're all adding up to this one big lie that you tell yourself.

The Real Meaning Behind Excuses

And it's basically saying I'm not ready for this. That's what all of those excuses are saying. I am not ready for this right now. I'm just not. And you tell yourself this. And when you tell yourself that, you're right. If you tell yourself I'm not ready, then you're right. But what if you said, oh, I could maybe take a step? I could do one thing today. Like I was talking to my daughter, Lexi. So shout out to Lexi. She's been wanting to start a business and she had an idea, and we kind of went through and we're like, what's one thing you could do today? Right? There's things you can do. But what I want to talk about today are two points that I think are really important. When you find yourself drowning in all these excuses or the big lie of I'm just not ready yet, and you can actually overcome it and realize that it is a lie and to stop saying that to yourself that you're not ready and to actually begin pursuing this

Ready Comes From Doing

dream. So here's point number one I want to make that being ready is actually built by doing things and not by waiting. Right? Being ready is a fallacy. There is no like a hundred percent I'm ready for this massive life change, or I'm ready to spend money, I'm ready. Like you may feel like that, and you may have even said, okay, I'm ready to start I'm anxious, I want to have a business. But what happens is the brain overtakes you and starts pulling in all of these excuses that I just mentioned, right? All these things that stop you. Like, I don't have the best logo, I need I need to do this, I need to do that, I need to start after the holidays, I need to learn more about marketing, I need to do more research, I need to get more certifications, right? Those are the things that we're telling ourselves instead of taking action. Ready is built by doing, not by waiting and wallering and all of the things. My whole point of being here is to get you going in the most simple way possible, right? It's not gonna be this huge, overwhelming shower of craziness. I don't want that for you. I want simple steps that are clear, and you just take a step at a time in the way that you can, right? And maybe the truth is you can't actually put all your heart and soul into this business for a few years because you need your kids to be in kindergarten or you need them to be off to college so that you can think. I hear you on that. I totally hear you, okay? But what I'm saying is you're telling yourself I'm not ready when there's actually things that you can be doing right now. You can be researching, you can be playing with Canva and starting to make a logo and just doing something, right? I always talk about this. There is something. If I told you that I have a, you know, $1,000 right here, and in 30 seconds, tell me something that you could do to move forward with your business today, something little. Call somebody, read something, order something, research, go on chat GBT. You would tell me within 30 seconds something that you could do. I'm not even saying you have to do it yet. I'm just saying you could tell me. So the truth is, you already could be doing something today. Instead of waiting, you could be getting moving. Now, the good news is you're here, you're listening to this podcast. This is part of your journey, right? This is part of you learning and going. But what we don't want to get stuck in is learning mode, right? You want to get moving, right? So ready is built by doing, not by waiting. It's by taking action on something that you can do now, right? Maybe you can't put 100% of your life into this right now, and that's fine because you do have something legitimate that's going on in your life. And I get that. I totally sympathize with you on that because I've been there too. But the fact is you can be learning right now, even more, if you can't actually start. But don't say I'm not ready. Because when you say I'm not ready, it puts you in a zone of feeling less than and inferior, and you're not good enough yet. And the fact is, you already are. You already have knowledge about what you want to offer. And there is some way that you can start getting things going right now. You could make a prototype, you could offer something for free for a discount, you could be doing something. You could be making a sample product or creating something or helping someone right now. So don't say I'm not ready because you actually are. You just maybe don't have the total time to put into this yet. That doesn't mean you're not ready. You actually are ready. You just need to start taking action. So no more waiting. You're gonna take action. That that is how you become more ready. Okay. So that's my first point.

The Emotional Cost Of Waiting

My second point is the cost of believing that lie that you're not ready is actually higher than the cost of starting the emotional weight of it, that low grade grief that you haven't been good enough, that you don't have what it takes, that you don't know how to get going, that you know, maybe you're not smart enough yet. That constant belief of that lie that you're not ready is costing you more than if you just started and you did something. Think about the mind shift right now of somebody. Let's just picture it's one of your friends. Think of someone you know, okay, that you care about. And they have been saying, I want to start a business doing XYZ. And maybe it's something you already know that they're good at. So imagine them saying this and they just keep putting it off. They're like, Oh, well, I don't have a logo. And you're like, listen, you've got to get it out there. You've got to start offering it. People will love it. Just start simple. You would be telling them all this stuff, like, no, you can just start right now, just make a sample, or you can offer it to your friends for free or for a low cost, or you can post on social media about it. You could send a text out to your friends. You would be giving your friend that you adore a whole bunch of ways that they could get going. But I want you to imagine how sad it would be if you watched your friend just sit over there and turn on Netflix and be like, yeah, I wanted to start a business, but I'm just not ready. Or I'm not ready to pursue this dream. And you'd be like, What do you mean you're not ready? I think if you have the belief, you are ready and you can be taking simple steps, right? You would be talking to him or her like this. You would be heartbroken that they didn't have the self awareness that they already have what it takes to get moving, and that they didn't have the self-confidence to do it, and that they just sat there wallering in all of these, like, I'm gonna say excuses because I know that they are, because they're real things that you need to do, like I need to get a logo, I need to get a website, but you can actually be taking steps toward those, and your friend could actually be taking steps toward those things and talking to people and investigating. Maybe your friend literally can't start the business right now and like go full on. But your friend could do some little steps and be creating samples or prototypes and doing something to get this going to make sure that she actually likes it, that this is the dream. But imagine the reverse that she just sat there and watched Netflix every day and scrolled on Instagram and just doom scrolled all day long. Wouldn't you be sad for your friend? You're like, why can't she or he get it together and just start something? You would be like almost wanting to do it for them because you're like, I can't watch you waste this. The same is for you. That cost of believing the lie that I'm not ready is higher than the cost of starting. It doesn't cost you much to get started. But here's the deal: you will gain so much self-confidence and joy and exhilaration out of starting something and creating something out of nothing, of learning, of opening up this whole world. If you're just in the research stage or whatever it is, you feel exhilarated, right? You feel excited. That joy that you can have in your heart and soul every day walking around is so much better than the cost of just sitting there and not doing anything because you've told yourself that you're not ready. My friends, today is the day you can take a simple step towards your dream. Again, reminder if I had $1,000, you could tell me in the next 30 seconds something that you could do, like quickly, like what could you do? And I would give you the $1,000. Think about that. You could do it. So it is a lie because there is something that you can be doing. You can be posting in a Facebook group, you can text a friend, you can look on Chat GBT, you can listen to more episodes of this podcast, you can start researching, you can get focused, you can start making a sample, a prototype, offer your service, do something, map it out, open Google Docs, start planning

One Small Step You Can Take

things out. If you need help, by the way, you know I have my best business idea workbook. I have my just getting started program to help you start your business and like give you the overview of how you're gonna approach this. It's all there for you. There are resources here for you. Okay. No more waiting, no more believing the slide that you're not ready. You are ready, or you wouldn't have had the idea. Maybe it's not the right timing to actually go full on with the business, but you're ready to do something. You're ready to do something and do something, take a step, do one thing today. I hope that helped you. I'm so excited for you. I don't want you to ever doubt yourself or not think that you don't have what it takes, because you most certainly do. I'm proof. I've done this, I've gone for it, and it's been a blast. And my business has evolved over the years and things changed and began. But when I had the idea, I just started taking steps, right? And I have ideas for the future of my business. And I've been taking little steps, going, oh, I could go this angle, I could go this angle. I'm constantly thinking of new things, and you will see that it becomes easier for you once you start taking action and learning about things and taking steps. You're like, oh, I do like this path, or no, I'm gonna shift it this way. You learn so much. So that's it. Y'all are amazing. Reach out if you ever have any questions or anything.
