We are going to end that today. You are going to know how to share your business in a confident and easy way. So we're going to talk about that today. If you're new, welcome. I'm so glad that you found this podcast. This is for aspiring business owners, new business owners, or even those of you that are veterans and growing your business, and you want to stop overthinking everything and you want to actually get moving so you can make money doing what you love. That's who this podcast is for. And so I'm so excited you're here. If you're new, real quick for all of you before we kick off the episode, you can go to my website, Kimberleybrock.com, or all the links are down below. I've got free Reese's for free Reese's. I wish I was giving away Reese's peanut butter cups. Um, free resources so you can get your business started or maybe even your podcast. If you've been thinking about starting a podcast, so I have programs for that, and I offer one-on-one coaching. So everyone, let's talk about it. Let's talk about how the heck we talk about our business. So I've worked with hundreds of small business owners. Y'all know this, like new business owners, and the majority are women. And I often find that many of them struggle sharing what they do in their business. So they'll meet people at the grocery store, they'll meet people at church, they'll meet people out and about, their chiropractor, their dentist, at pickleball, like me, you know, and people will go, what do you do? And how do you talk about this? Are are you hearing me? Do you like, do you have something prepared that you say? My grow getters know this because we worked on this all the time. Like, what the heck you're gonna say to people and how you go about saying it. Again, it could be words you speak out loud. It could be words that you type or you write, right? And it's a struggle. I think some of you don't want to feel like you're like braggy or arrogant, like I have a business, you know, and like being all like that, like nobody wants to be like that. Um, you also feel weird that maybe you're being sort of judged. I hate to say that, but a lot of you inside, inside your heart, you feel like you're being judged. You're worried about what other people think. Like, is she qualified? What is she doing? Why does she have a business? Is she good enough? Is she smart enough? Like, that's what y'all think that other people think, which they don't, by the way. I think you are nervous for like, are you putting the listener or the person on the other side in a weird position? Like they feel like you expect them to buy from you, you know? Um, I think we we struggle with those kind of things. So I think the point is here that you have to have like a script of what you're gonna say and you can work on it. You can work on it by yourself, as awkward as that sounds. You should. I do. I have done this because I want to make sure when I'm talking about my business, people know what I'm talking about. Even just like at the beginning of this podcast, right? This podcast is for you. If you're an aspiring business owner, maybe you're trying to start right now, maybe you're trying to grow, you're a veteran, but you want to make money doing what you love, right? You want to use your God-given gifts for greater. See, these are all phrases that I say and I put them in at different times, also depending on who I'm speaking to. So, for example, if I'm talking to a woman, I will say, like, I met a woman at pickleball the other night. She's like, What do you do for a living? And I'm like, Well, I host a podcast for women who want to start businesses. And she was like, Oh, and as I've talked to my growhetters about this, I then have my level two thing that I say. And I say a little bit longer version of that. And then I have level three. If we keep talking, I go into it even more, right? So it's kind of like an accordion, like it's it's closed up and very, you know, succinct and tight and close. And you just say, I help women start businesses uh doing what they love. I usually say that. I help women start businesses doing what they love. And then if we keep talking, I keep expanding and opening it up to share more, right? If I talk to men that I know especially are married, I say I help women because I want them to know that. Sometimes I will talk to men who I've already been talking to. And you know what? I I sit there and go, they actually want to start a business and they don't know it. And when they find out, so I can say, yeah, I help people like you who want to turn their passion into a business. And so I have a I host a podcast that does that and I offer coaching. So see what I'm saying? Like I have different things that I say depending on the situation. Today I think we need to come up with the just the basic one. Cause if you have the basic one, then anywhere you go, out in the wild, every day, when you are in the wild, you will know. You will know what the heck to say without feeling weird and awkward and coming off weird. That's the last thing y'all want to do. You realize that when you come off weird, people know it. They're like, What why is she acting weird? Does she not like her business? Is she not good at her business? Um, does she really not even have a business? Like, why is she acting weird? And I think you have to be cognizant of that, that the way you hold yourself and carry yourself and the words that you use give people an impression. Even if you only say that shortest thing, I help women start businesses doing what they love. If that's all they ever hear from me, if I look like I'm scared, I'm awkward, I'm weird, I'm not confident, how do you think that other person is going to receive that? And if they come across a woman in their life, their sister, their mom, their friend, or themselves, if they think, oh my gosh, I do want to start a business, I've been thinking about that. Do you think that they're gonna feel confident in you if you're not even confident in the little tiny bit that you say about your business? No. So we know how important this is. We know how important this is. It's extremely important. And I think you have to be able to get down to what you're gonna say so that anywhere you go from today on, today on, you're gonna meet people. You're gonna meet people out and about. People tell me they're dentists, they're dry cleaning person, person at Bible study, a neighbor down the street at Bunko or Mahjong or whatever you're doing, you are going to meet people. And you are not just trying to, you're first of all, you're not trying to sell that person at all, zero. So take that off of your plate, off of your shoulders. You are never trying to sell them. You are trying to talk to them as a human. And when you start getting clues that maybe they are a person that might be a good fit, I'm sure that the conversation will continue. And by you just talking confidently and sharing it, that can actually be how you sell. It's explaining it and all that stuff. But again, we're not going into the whole accordion. We're starting with the very beginning because a lot of you have never even done this, which I didn't realize. I thought everyone kind of came up with what they would say. I think a lot of people just walk around going, I don't know to say. I don't know what to say. I'm gonna feel weird and I'm gonna meet somebody and I don't know to say. Do I just tell them that I have like a store? Do I tell them I have a boutique? Do I say like online business? Like, what am I even saying? Okay, today you're gonna know it. You're gonna have a little formula for what you are going to say. Okay. So, first of all, let me explain this. You have to be real. I'm gonna give you three points. The three points, again, that before we figure out your little sentence here, let me make this very clear. Number one, you have to be real. You have to be authentic, you have to be yourself. You have to look comfortable in what you're saying. So the words that we come up with here in a minute have to feel right to you. You they cannot be from Chat GBT, and you're memorizing what ChatGBT told you. Now, I'm not saying don't use AI. I love AI. I use it multiple times a day. In fact, I'm testing Claude right now. I really like it for writing and website content and all that. Um, I've been an avid chat B chat GBT user, if I can say it. I know some people use Perplexity, some people use Gemini, some people use Jasper AI. I've heard that. Anyways, you can use those tools. Okay, you can. I'm just saying make sure that whatever you're saying feels completely comfortable to you and just rolls off your tongue. It like literally just rolls off your tongue because that's what you do. Okay. Okay, I own a bakery, I have a Plotti studio, I'm a tutor, I'm a landscape designer, I'm an interior designer. Like you should be able to say what you do super easily, like that. Like that, that ease of that should roll off your tongue. So, number one, it should be real. Okay. Number two, it should be very concise. Like literally, the first time you say something, it needs to be short. Like I could just say, I help women starting businesses. I like to clarify, I've found I help women start businesses doing what they love because that then narrows it completely. It's not like I helped them start franchises, I helped them start real estate offices, help them start restaurants. No, no, no, no, no. It's starting a business doing what they love. They still don't know for sure, but at least it makes it passion-based and they kind of have an idea, like it's something fulfilling, it's something they want to open. It's, you know, not something else, right? That they just have bought a business. Like I know people that have bought businesses from other people, and that's fabulous. But this is more about starting something, you know, it's a lot of people that offer a service themselves or they're a maker, right? People kind of get that when I say that. And then they'll usually, if they want to know more, they'll ask more questions. Anyways, okay, be concise. So be real, be concise. And number three, be confident. Stop acting weird. And I know that's easier said than done, but the way that you're confident is when the words are in alignment with you and feel authentic to you, and you get to say it as short as possible, and then you get to smile and hold yourself in confidence. I used to kind of be a little bit embarrassed because people were like, she has a podcast. Like, who's this chick? Like, that's what I'm thinking that they're thinking. So now I'm like, oh, I host a podcast, and I'm like super excited about it. Y'all need to be excited about your business. Now, notice I don't immediately say I'm a business coach or a podcast coach. I don't immediately say that. And let me give a disclaimer on that. The reason why I feel comfortable, this feels in alignment with me. If I say immediately I'm a business coach or a podcast coach, I think it sort of puts a wall up. If they don't know me, if they have no idea anything, a little bit because they're thinking, is she trying to sell me? And when I say I'm a podcast host or I host a podcast, they're like, oh, that's cool. They kind of think of it more as an endeavor and they don't think it is like this person is trying to sell me. So that's why I start out with I host a podcast. And you can say, I have a YouTube channel, I host a YouTube show every week, or I host a podcast, or I have a store, or or you can say what you are. But for my industry and my niche, immediately when I say I'm a coach of some sort, I think that has mixed feelings by people, just for whatever reason, like that I'm gonna try to sell them on it, right? And so it's very hands-off and comfortable for me to just start out with I host a podcast. And then they'll later, I always this always happens. How do you make money? Just a podcast, is that how you're making your money? And I'm like, actually, no, I talk about my coaching services and my programs and and all that. And they're like, oh, okay. And they get it and it clicks, right? Because I would have to have like an amazing podcast running ads all the time, and that's how I'd make money. And most people will tell you, like, you're not. I mean, unless you're Joe Rogan or someone, you're you're just, you know, we're normal people here, we're not famous people. People may not have even known who we were. Nobody knew who I was before I jumped on this mic, right? So, anyways, people be confident and be excited. Their feeling about your business comes from how you talk about your business. Okay. Don't forget that. Do not forget that. Okay. They are getting an impression from you when you tell them. So let's work on this. It's a three-step messaging framework. It's super simple, and you're gonna be so excited because by the end of this, you're gonna know it. You need to get out your pen and paper or maybe your notes app on your phone. Okay, you ready? So here is the formula. I'm gonna say the whole formula and then we're gonna go through each one. I help who do what so they can what? I help who do what so they can what? Okay, so there's actually three steps to this. So hang on, especially the third step. We're gonna we're gonna clarify some things on that, okay? So the first step, who do you help? I want y'all to name a specific person. Is it homeowners? Is it women? Is it Christian couples? Is it midlife women? Do you have someone specific that you can say that does a encompass what you do? Now, I don't say Christian women, I just say women because I do help people of other faiths. Um, but I do talk about my faith. So let me even tell you a really cool tip. Tip for the day ding, ding, ding. Everyone listen. If I was at a Bible study or a church or a Christian organization speaking, I would tell them because I'm there that I help Christian women, which is totally true, right? I help Christian women, I would say that. Out in the wild, I just say I help women, usually. I just say I help women. It's it's it works because my clients are not all Christians, but if I'm at a Christian group, I will say that. Okay. So maybe you're at a couple's retreat and they're all married in a couple's retreat, and what you know they're homeowners. You know they're all homeowners. You can say I help couples with their homes. Like you can say things like that if you want to. Okay, you don't have to. I just do, I qualify it. So instead of saying I help women feel good in their bodies again, you can say, I help midlife women. I think if you can get specific, if you have a specific niche, like midlife, and that's who you help, and that's who you want to help, you should say it. I think you should totally say it because that helps so much. If I was somewhere and I just said, I help, you know, women get healthy or whatever, they'd be like, okay, what does that mean? Are you like helping them with stuff with maybe some are diabetic and they need medication? Are you helping them with weights? Are you helping them with diet? What do you mean by healthy? Are you helping them with exercise? Like it's very broad. So I think if you can clarify normally who you help, I'm gonna say I help women. That's what I feel comfortable with. Okay. You say what is real, like the actual people that you help. And if you kind of have a little clarifier in there, right, then I would do it. Okay. So that's who you help. Number one, who do you help? Like right now, if I just said who do you help? You just tell me in two words, two words. Who do you help? If you can do two words. Most of y'all can. Some of your niches are a little bit different, right? Um, okay. Like, for example, if you said homeowners that have lived here for over 10 years or something like that, I understand. You need to, you need to qualify and it's gonna be longer than two words. Okay, what are you helping them do? Like I say, I help women start businesses. Okay, I'm helping them start businesses. That's what I'm helping them do. Um, that's what I help them do. What do you help them do? Plan their landscaping. You know, how do you help them design the interior of their home? Um get healthy, uh, gain muscle. I help midlife women gain muscle. You could be saying that. So, what do you help them do? And make it simple. Okay, so number one was who you help. I help blank. And then number two was do what? What do you help them do in simple terms? And then number three, this is the one that trips people up a little bit and is actually kind of important. Okay. So I would normally say, I help women start businesses doing what they love. So that's number three, the doing what they love. It's a clarifier result. It's a clarifier result. Like it's something that they love. It's passion based, it's a passion based. You can just kind of tell they're like, oh, something they love to do. It's like a business based on a passion or something that's meaningful to them. And so it's a little bit of a qualifier. That's what feels comfortable to me. Again, this is about feeling comfortable to you that does actually become effective. Okay. And so yours might be I help men, let's just say, start businesses without sacrificing their family, or even if they have no experience. So you can do an without or an even if. So you can do what I did where you just add like a little qualifier phrase. So I said, doing what they love, or you can do without. Okay, so like if I said I help midlife women get strong without lifting heavy weights. Okay, that's kind of interesting, or even if they've never picked up a weight in their life. See, it's a qualifier without or even if, or you don't have to use one of those two words without or even if. Well, I guess that's three words. Without or even if you're gonna be like me and just add a phrase. I help who do what without blank. I help who do what even if. Okay. Like I'm thinking of Kim Aguilar right now. She's amazing, one of my clients with the Southern Daisy. And she could say, I'm just thinking of her because I was thinking of different people that I've worked with. She could say, I help homeowner, homeowners. She's a by the way, she's a landscape design and consultant. Again, the Southern Daisy. I help homeowners their landscaping even if they have a brown thumb. Right? I mean, that's just an example. I don't know that that's the best example, or I help homeowners have beautiful flowers in their yard, even if they have a brown thumb. So that might be better. But I'm just saying see how you can do without, or you can do even if, or a qualifier like I did. Okay. So let's say my business was helping people with their messaging, and messaging is this all of the wording and everything. And let's just say this is this is all I did. And I could say I help new business owners explain what they do without sounding like a weirdo, or without sounding like everyone else. Okay. I help new business owners explain what they do without sounding like everyone else. Right? That's what you can say. If you that's just an example, but again, I help do what and then what's the result? Without or even if, or just giving a little qualifier. Y'all, that's the framework. It's down below, by the way. You can get it down below. The notes are below. And I hope you figured it out. Y'all, this is massively helpful. Massively helpful because if you can't confidently explain what you do, no one is going to believe in you in your business. They're not going to trust you. They're going to be like, why is she acting weird? Okay. So we are going to say what feels comfortable to us. We're going to be concise and we're going to be confident. We're confident because we planned already what we're saying and it feels good to us. Okay? This is how you do it. This is how you share what you do without sounding like a weirdo. Right? And you can see even on my homepage, I, you know, I switch my wording all the time on my homepage. But here's the good news. Once you figure this out, it makes creating like that hero section at the top of your website much easier because you already know what you do. And then you just think of a cool headline. You can even use Chat GBT and all that. So this is what I say. This is my headline right now as of today of recording this on my homepage. You can go to Kimlaybrock.com you can say yes, it's time to make money doing what you love. That's my headline. And underneath it says I help women stop overthinking and actually start and grow the business that they've been dreaming about. That's my head. So this statement is the catalyst for everything that you create from here on out. It is like the whole thing. And so I think if we can get this nailed down everything starts flowing the words on your website the things that you say the products you make the freebies that whether you do a podcast or YouTube channel like it's everything. I should do like coaching calls with just this. I may offer that like if you're trying to figure out what exactly you do and you don't know how to say it, I think we need to figure this out because if you don't it literally trickles down to all then you don't know how to do anything. It's trickling to all the things that you're doing okay okay I thought this was fun. Do you think this is fun? I thought this was a really fun episode because I think it's very applicable to what you're doing. I really do. So remember everyone listening what you say about your business is massively important and you need to be real you need to be a real human a real person when you're talking you need to be concise and you need to be confident because this is your ticket to getting referrals. This is your ticket to getting clients. And if you don't know what to say then you are going to look like a weirdo and people are going to question why you're in business. Okay. And I don't want that to happen to you because I think you're amazing. I'm so proud of you. You are awesome and courageous for pursuing something greater in your life such as a business. I think it's awesome. So that's it. Y'all have an awesome day. If you do want to do a power hour we can work on this together and let's nail this out in an hour. I think we can do it. I think we can figure it out. I want you to feel confident in what you're saying to people because again it's going to be the catalyst. It's going to be the North Star for everything that you write on your website and what you create and everything you say. So that's it. Y'all have a great day until next time.
