Speaker 1:

So now I'm on a mission to help other new business owners, just like you, make money doing what you love too. Now we're going to have some fun, so let's get started.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello, this is Kimberly.

Speaker 3:

It's episode 304, and I am so thankful that you are here today, because we're talking about starting a coaching or service business and how to actually begin to make money. I know so many of you have already started your business and you're maybe not making the money that you wanted to make yet, or you're thinking about starting one and you want to ensure that you turn this into a business and not a hobby. Then this episode is a must listen for you. Almost gosh, is it. Five years, almost six years, and it's been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my entire life. We're going to talk about it today and how I've gotten through probably the struggles that you're having right now as well, and I can't wait to share this with you. I know it's going to help you. If you're new here, welcome to this podcast. I'm so glad you're here. Make sure you get plugged in. Scroll down in the show notes. Right now. I have some free goodies for you. Oh yes, resources for starting your business, for growing your business, for starting a podcast. These are all very important things, and I've got tools and resources for you, from printables to video trainings, so I know they will help you. Again, this podcast is free, so you're getting a lot of content here at your fingertips right now to help you get moving fast. That's my whole goal, and so I'm so glad you're here.

Speaker 3:

Speaker 3:

And if you've been listening a while, thank you so much to all my loyal listeners. Y'all are so kind, y'all are so grateful, and I'm just so proud of you. On my coaching calls that have just been happening in the recent weeks, I've just been astounded at all of you. You're so driven, you are building a dream. You're scared, but you're doing it anyways and you're taking the right steps. That's what makes me so happy, because you know that's why I'm here. My whole mission is to give you the confidence and the business skills that you need to actually build this dream, and I'm so proud of you.

Speaker 3:

Thank you to those of you that have already given reviews to this podcast, and I would just ask one quick favor If you've been listening to this podcast and you find value in it, like it's one that you listen to, one that you make sure you you know you have to listen on Thursdays when the episodes come out and you found value in it. Would you be so kind to write a quick review, like super quick y'all, it will take you no time. You can hit the five-star rating. Like an Apple podcast, you can just hit five stars and that would be amazing and you're done. But if you have 30 seconds to just write a quick note on what this podcast has meant to you, or maybe an episode you liked or something that you got out of it, or why you listen, it would mean the world to me. So that's it On to the episode.

Speaker 3:

Well, hello friends, how are you? How is everything going? I am so excited to speak directly to all of you that are coaches. Maybe you're a service provider, maybe you're even some kind of instructor or teacher, or you're an expert in your field and you're ready to help others. Today's the day. This is for you. So listen up, make sure you pay attention all the way through, because I'm going to share with you the things that are very important for you actually making money in this business. So many of you have begun this dream and maybe you've got a full-time job, you have children, some of you are homeschooling, some of you are taking care of elderly parents, some of you travel a lot, some of you volunteer a lot all these things and it just fascinates me that you're still like I am going to pursue this dream, and what I know that is so awesome about coaching and service providers and instructors and everything is that you can do this on the side. You can start this on the side. So feel good today If you're one of those ones that are in the dreaming stage and maybe you have a full-time job and a lot of commitments. The cool thing about this type of business is that you get to schedule it on your time and you really do get to have it be whatever you want to be.

Speaker 3:

I know there's so much pressure in the online world, especially everything you see on Instagram and Facebook and YouTube and you got to make, you know, $400 billion doing this. You need to be making a million dollars. I've seen some of it calm down a little bit. It used to be way more mainstream, like in 2021, 2022. It's calmed a little, but still it's there, that pressure of like, I have to make X amount of money. Now some of you are trying to eventually go full time with this. Then, yeah, the pressure is there for you because you have to, you know, make that income. You have to cover what you were making in your past job. Or maybe you're going to start doing this part-time and just take your current job part-time. The good news is you can do that, do this, but even better news is that you're here trying to do things right.

Speaker 3:

That is my biggest sadness with a lot of new coaches and service providers is that some of them don't really take it seriously. They're not really seeking out podcasts like this. They're not really learning that much. They may read a book or or talk to a friend, and that's great. You should do all those things. But you actually have to take it a few steps further. You have to take this seriously. Seriously because it will turn into a hobby very, very quickly, and there's nothing wrong with a hobby. I always say that Hobbies are a great thing. I love photography, I love working out, I love pickleball. There's a lot of things that I love to do, but I'm here because I'm creating a business. So you have to draw a line in the sand Like am I creating a hobby or am I building a business? What am I doing? And if you're here to build a business, today is for you.

Speaker 3:

So many of you have told me that you've wanted to start this business because you want more purpose in your life and you really want a career that is fulfilling, where you can use your God-given gifts, you can make a difference in others' lives. You actually feel like you're contributing to this world, instead of, maybe, at a job that's miserable. I mean, there's nothing worse than having to stay in a job because you need the money, and what I love is that you can start a business like this like a coaching business, service business on the side, and start getting it going. It will give you some happiness in your life while you still bring in your income, and then you can be building it up and hopefully turn it into whatever you want for your life. Okay, so, again, starting a coaching business is so rewarding, or a service business, because you're usually working one-on-one with people, you're having to talk to people, you're seeing them.

Speaker 3:

You know I had online gift boutiques for years and, in fact, my daughter is wanting to kind of learn about business and so we are, in a very small, small way, going to be resurrecting InThisVeryRoomcom so you can check it out right now. I think there's a splash page up where you can put in your email to get notified of when we launch. It's going to be very, very small, a way smaller version of what we did before, but here's the good news again just like what I said, I practice what I preach. You can have your business, be whatever you want. You just got to do things right and strategically. So we are relaunching that. But the difference in that in the coaching business has been pretty profound. It really has and I'm not knocking product businesses because I'm about to help my daughter kind of relaunch in a very, very small way.

Speaker 3:

And I love gifts and it's a gift boutique and I had it from. 2003 is when I first went online and closed it shortly before starting this business and I loved them. But they were more transactional. People were ordering online. I'm just shipping goods. People are ordering online, I'm shipping goods. It was fulfilling to me because I love cute stuff and we were the source for like monogrammed and personalized gifts and people would be so excited to give them to their friends, their kids, their grandkids. So it brought me a lot of fulfillment and joy. Okay so so I don't care what you're selling, you can find so much joy in it and I'm sure you already know that I'm preaching to the choir, because some of you make jewelry, you make candles, you make pottery, you have art. You you have products that you put your heart and soul into, and I think it's amazing and it's very fulfilling For me.

Speaker 3:

When I started this business, it was at a time in my life when I just was like I need more, I need something even more impactful, because my life was allowing it, my kids were getting older. Before I had to have more of a transactional business, I couldn't be out and about, I wanted to be home with my three kids. Right Now, I have a little more freedom, and so, you know, five or six years ago, when I started this, I was like I really want to create more impact, like I feel I just felt it y'all in my soul that I have something more to give. And I don't know if that's you today, that you just you know you have more to give. Maybe you have a part-time job, that you're doing something similar to the business that you're starting, but your hands have kind of been tied. There's regulations, or you can't do certain things and you're like I should just have my own business doing this, because I know what to do and I can do it more in the way that I believe will help people more. And that's why you're here and that's why I love all of you, because you are wanting to make a difference, you're wanting to use your God-given gifts. And it's so beautiful, y'all it's so beautiful.

Speaker 3:

But again, the trap for a lot of new coaches and service providers is that it becomes a hobby, because you're thinking I don't have all the time to do all the things you are trying to figure out, like what exactly am I selling and how am I selling it? What's the package form of it? What's the pricing? How do I show up? Where do I show up? What do I say without being a weirdo, like, how do I do this? And do I need to have an email list? And how do I market to people? And you know, how do I not come off salesy or icky? And how do I get people to buy? And how do I actually build an audience, like do I need to be on Instagram all the time and YouTube and podcasts and what all do I need?

Speaker 3:

I mean, the stress is real. Can y'all hear it, as I'm just sitting there saying it? Like the stress is palpable. It's there, it's thick, it's in the air. It's like this Texas humidity that we have. It's heavy, it's heavy and a lot of you are feeling that. So here's what I'm seeing. Okay, this is what I see all the time, because I coach people.

Speaker 3:

Okay, and I'm seeing exactly at ground zero what is happening. They've got this amazing idea. They feel this calling in their soul. They are like I'm doing this, I want to go for it, but I'm scared. And they start kind of getting things together and they start kind of analyzing things and then they get stuck in indecision, analysis, paralysis, what website platform? All the tech, tech causes problems. Then they start getting going and they're like okay, do I start a Facebook group? Do I start a podcast? Do I start a YouTube channel? Like, what are all the things? Do I do all the things? And then for coaches and service providers, they're like okay, if I'm going to do this online, am I going to have like a really high-end offer that's like one-on-one or am I going to do, like, some kind of course or workshop? Am I going to do live workshops? Am I going to do a course? Y'all it gets crazy. Everyone's mulling over all this stuff complete analysis, paralysis. They get stuck too in like what words to use when they just want to talk to people and tell them what they do. It's very hard. It is very hard when you start.

Speaker 3:

I was a weirdo when I started this business because I came from a product business and I'm like oh, I have an online gift boutique. We sell monogrammed and personalized gifts. It was super easy. I was like we do it for women, children and home. I had my. I never even like totally thought about it, it just came very natural.

Speaker 3:

When I started this and I was having to say I'm a business coach because it was selling myself, all of a sudden it was bizarre. I like clammed up, like I got weird. I'm like they are looking at me like why is this woman talking about herself and what she can do and how is she qualified? Like I had all these thoughts in my head of what people were thinking of me and I don't know if y'all feel this way, but when you're selling yourself, your own services, your own coaching. It's weird and it feels like you're an imposter. I know they talk about imposter syndrome, but you do. You feel like you're not qualified, even though you are qualified. I don't know if y'all have that, though you are qualified. I don't know if y'all have that. The majority of my clients have that, not all of them, but they still are like what do I say, what do I do? If they haven't been in this industry before Now, if someone has been doing this as a job and then they start their own business doing it, usually they're a lot more confident and they already know what to say, they know how to deal with these clients.

Speaker 3:

But people like me who were like now doing something new, it's weird, you know it's weird, and so many will struggle in the beginning. They do and they end up drawing this out for months and months and even years y'all Years Like going well, I'm a coach, do I create a $7 offer? Do I create a group program? How do I do this? And they get stuck in all this mind drama on the pricing and what they're doing and what their method's going to be and the whole thing, and it draws it out, y'all, and they end up then not making money quickly and it gets very hard to keep doing this and to keep facing their family. This is what people tell me. They have a hard time facing their family because their family has given up time with them and all that so you could pursue your dream, right. But maybe you've got a business I mean a job and other things and you're now not spending as much time with your family and you feel embarrassed that you're not making as much money. I don't know if this is you, but, but this is real. These are the real struggles that I see.

Speaker 3:

So my question to you today is how in the world are you going to build this career, whether it be part time, maybe it be it's micro time we hear the word like micro-dosing and micro-this and micro-that, even if it's a micro-business. How are you going to make money doing this if you don't get all this stuff figured out? Get all this stuff figured out, like if you don't get clear about what you're selling and how you're going to actually sell it without being a weirdo, without working 40 hours a week, without spending a ton of money, without the hustle culture, without having to be on every single platform or selling your soul to social media. How are you going to do this? If you don't figure this out? How are you going to build this career? How are you going to make this money? How are you going to impact the lives of the people you know you're called to serve? So many of you tell me you feel called today is a wake-up call. How are you going to do this sooner than later If you're sitting here going?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's me. I'm waffling between some of these ideas, my pricing, what I'm saying, where I'm showing up, what do I do? I'm trying to build an audience. How do I do this? If this is you today, realize that the problem probably is your whole offer, and when I say offer, I mean actually what you're selling and how you're selling it. Your whole offer is not aligned with you. It's not aligned with you yet, Yet, yet, okay, it's not aligned with this season of your life. Y'all know this is a hot button for me. It has to align with how much time you actually have right now. It has to align with who you actually are best suited to serve and it has to align with what the people are willing to pay for right now. So, aligning with your season of life, aligning with who you're actually best suited to serve and aligning with what people will actually give money for. You have to get it aligned.

Speaker 3:

You can no longer keep doing stuff that is completely out of your comfort zone, that does not match this time in your life. You're starting group programs. You're starting all these things and you don't have time. You have a full-time job or you may be in the stage because I have clients where they are retiring from teaching or other jobs and their spouses are retired now, and then their spouses are like what the heck are you doing? You're spending 40 hours a week in your computer in the house trying to make group programs that do all this stuff when you didn't really have an aligned offer that would make you the money that would make it a success for you right now, at this season of your life.

Speaker 3:

And everybody's definition of success is different, Different. Okay, making 10K to one person may be a huge deal and a huge win and worth all of the time, and making 10K for another person may be not worth it. They would never do this for just 10K, right? I'm just saying that, like you have to realize. Stop all of the comparison and saying that my business should be this or that. It's almost like the weight on the scale that we all have compared ourselves to, or the size of jeans, or it's silly. Everyone's genetics is different, everyone's built different. Their choices for food are different. Like, let's stop.

Speaker 3:

Your business needs to be aligned with you, so something is out of whack. Either you're trying to do too much that is not aligned with the season in your life and it's taking too much time and that's why you're taking a long time to start making money, or maybe it is that it's not actually serving the people that you want to serve, like it's something has not been settling right and you keep kind of going back and forth and back and forth and you're like, oh my gosh, I'm not actually targeting the people that I meant to serve. We call that your niche, right, your target market. And then the next question is am I actually doing things to and providing things that people actually want to pay for right now? I mean, these are the big questions. This offer has to be aligned. You have to know what you're selling and how you're going to sell it, and it has to be in the most simple form, as you can hear from me talking about all this stuff.

Speaker 3:

It's complicated, it's exhausting what I'm, what I've been talking about. Right, because we have made it exhausting. I made it exhausting when I started I I fumbled over words. I was like not totally confident. Like why are people going to listen to me on this podcast and and hire me for coaching? Are they really going to give me money? Like I could not believe it. The first person that bought from me, I bawled my eyes out. Like somebody is actually paying this, paying money for me to talk to them about their business. Like I couldn't believe it.

Speaker 3:

But it took a little while. It took a little bit. It wasn't right out of the gate. Some things were not totally aligned. They weren't clear to me and they weren't clear to the people that I was meant to serve. So today you have to ask yourself yourself what feels out of alignment, what is not feeling right? Why is this taking so long? Am I doing things that are not aligned with me?

Speaker 3:

If this is you today, I want you to know that I am here to help you. This is what I do for people. I don't walk you into 12 weeks of coaching or anything like that. I help you. Get on a call with me and let's pound this out for about an hour. Let's go through what you've already done, where you're at what's feeling heavy, and let's try to work through it in the most simple and aligned form possible. You can scroll down in the show notes right now. If this is you okay and there's a contact form, you can just fill it out. There's a few questions there, just so I can understand your business and what stage you're at and I can reply back and let you know if I think I can possibly help you or not.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to be honest with you. I'm not here to waste anybody's time with coaching. I'm not here to take anybody's money who doesn't actually need coaching. Okay, I know that you all are like me. You want to run your businesses in integrity, and so that's what I do. So if you do that and then you email back, maybe then we could jump on a free little call just to like better understand your business and maybe for you to get some quick clarity on the next steps that you need to take for your specific business. Right, and maybe coaching is an option for you, even one hour. You know, work with clients, like I'll do an hour here and an hour there whenever they need me. So I'm here today to tell you that your business has to be a business.

Speaker 3:

If you're a new coach, if you're a new service provider, you are at risk. You are at risk of this turning into a hobby because you can easily drag it out. You can drag it out for all those reasons that I mentioned above, like not knowing exactly how you're going to package your offer and trying to do too many offers and too many things right now, and you can get stuck on things like how to show up and what to say, like where do you show up? How often do you show up? Do you have to do social media? No, but anyways, you know this is what I'm saying. It can be structured to you. It has to be aligned. It has to be aligned and you have to take this seriously because, if not, you will risk this dragging out month after month. You missing time with your family, you missing time doing things, being very frustrated, maybe even crying, maybe even doubting if you have what it takes to do this.

Speaker 3:

I'm telling you now if you have felt a calling in your soul, if you have known that this is what you wanted to do to help people, even if it's just in a micro way okay, it's a micro business Even if it's just something small, then you owe it to yourself and you owe it to those people that you yearn to help. To take this seriously. And when I say take this seriously, I don't mean investing a ton of money, I don't mean having a bazillion hours of coaching, I don't mean having a bazillion hours of packages or types of packages. No, what I mean is you take it seriously, you do it strategically, in a simple and aligned way. And again, if you're sitting here going that sounds great, but I don't know how to do that then reach out through my contact form down below and let me see if I might be able to help you. If I can, I'll tell you. If I can't, I may have someone I could recommend you to.

Speaker 3:

Okay, I don't want you struggling. I want you to be able to have the career that you dream of, to impact the lives that you have dreamed of impacting and to make the money that will make you happy. Whatever that is, there's no judgment in this zone. Whatever it is, y'all know when I started, I just want to make $500 a month. That's it, and little did I know what it would grow into. So that's how you start, you get going and then you start getting these big goals. But you have to start simple. If everything's so complicated and you are struggling and you can't make decisions and you're in analysis, paralysis and all this is going on and it's adding stress to your life, I mean, I'm just I'm getting stressed out just talking about this because I see it. But I want you to know is that there is hope for you.

Speaker 3:

Simple and aligned offer. And what is an offer? It's what you sell and how you're selling it. It's the whole package. It's not just I'm selling coaching, it's all of it, all the words you use, the people that you're targeting, how you're going to show up. We can work on that. This is what I do for people like you. Don't struggle anymore, don't let this drag out. It is time to start living your dream and I'm so, so excited for you. You're going to make a difference in so many people's lives. So that's it. Thank you so much for being here. You know you can scroll down in the show notes right now. Reach out if you feel stuck. Otherwise, if you're like or like okay, I got it. I need to get this aligned, I need to do it simple, and if you know how to do it on your own, then go make it happen. I can't wait to watch your success. So that is it. Y'all have a great day Until next time. Bye now.

Speaker 2:

Now this episode may be over. But Now this episode may be over, but our relationship does not have to end here. Head on over to KimberlyBrockcom and, yes, you can get more valuable information for your journey and you know what. You don't need to go through this alone. I would love to help you.
