I know that it can be hard and what I want to do today is build you up and help you see that it's possible. You don't have to live in a state of anxiety, overwhelm, spinning your wheels, you know, just feeling like you're just totally stuck and almost paralyzed with like what do I do? This podcast has just continued to grow over the years and it's just so wonderful. So that is it Okay. On to the episode.
Speaker 2:Well, hello, friends, how are you?
Speaker 1:How is everything going in your business? I?
Speaker 3:need to know the scoop. I love hearing your updates. I actually really, really love it with those of you that I work with personally, coaching clients or in GrowGetters or in the Passion to Podcast, of course. All of you are making so much progress and you are pursuing your dream and it's so admirable and you're so inspiring. I know you are. I know you are so inspiring to those around you. Think about it for a minute.
Speaker 3:There's a lot of people around you today that have wanted to start things, whether it be a business, a podcast, a YouTube channel, maybe even just like a new fitness program, a new way of life. Maybe they're trying to stop something that's been a bad habit and people are scared to do it. They have a hard time taking that very first step because it is. Wouldn't you agree that, like, the first days are the hardest because you're like a minute ago I was doing this, but now I'm not and I'm creating this new life for myself. Right, it can be really hard, but you're amazing, you're actually doing this, you're putting your mind to it, you are going for something and I'll tell you something your business and or your podcast is going to give you renewed purpose. It really is. I know some of you have been seeking a more purposeful life, a more fulfilling life, especially with a career, and starting a business has been a way that you think you could do that, and I want to tell you that you can. You can and it will be one of the most rewarding journeys of your life. I'm telling you it will be because you will have achieved something that you dreamed of, that you didn't think you could do, and you're going for it. And you're putting yourself out there every day. Right, we're all gluttons for punishment. Right, we're putting ourselves out there and we know we may be judged. We know that people may say something about us, or our family may be like what is she doing? Or our friends, but it doesn't matter, because we're following what's in our soul and I'm so proud of you today.
Speaker 3:Today, I want to talk to those of you that feel overwhelmed. You feel stuck. You feel like you are bogged down. You're spinning your wheels. Maybe you have a full-time job, a part-time job, maybe you're a parent, maybe you volunteer. Maybe you're taking care of aging parents, maybe you're doing all of those things. I've had clients that have had full-time jobs and taking care of elderly parents, have children and still want to pursue their business. I don't know how they do it. They're superheroes to me, but it's true. Those of you that are out there that are feeling this way, I do get it.
Speaker 3:I've been massively overwhelmed at my businesses at times. I remember after I had my third child, that's when my businesses were at their height. I had two online boutiques and they were at their peak. This was like 2000,. When was she born? 2007.? Actually, the peak was later than that. It was like 2000,. Maybe 12, 13. But anyways it was.
Speaker 3:They were growing and growing, I think, at a speed that I hadn't had before, and I hired my sister-in-law and then I had to get other help at the house and then I had to hire another friend. Like I had to keep hiring people all the time. I think that's more what it was more of an explosion at that time. And then I had a child and I went through postpartum Again. I went through postpartum with my first child and my third child and it was terrible, terrible and just anxiety, couldn't sleep, like the whole thing, and I was extremely overwhelmed because I loved my businesses and I loved my family, but I couldn't figure out how to do it all and I just kind of went through an overwhelmed time and so I have been through different phases of overwhelm.
Speaker 3:I totally have and I get it, and it can be hard, but I think sometimes we have to help ourselves. We have to say, ok, I need to get a grip. A lot of times we seek outside help, which I think is fantastic. You're seeking outside help right now. You're listening to me, maybe you talk to family members, friends, people at your church, whatever it is. I understand. I think that's important, but I also think it's super important that we equip ourselves with coping mechanisms. I mean, it's the same with toddlers and children. When they get angry and they're throwing a fit, we try to talk them through it and give them coping mechanisms so that they can deal with it themselves. First, as a first line of defense. That's what we're doing today. People, I'm giving you a coping mechanism. That is your first line of defense when you are feeling that overwhelm.
Speaker 3:Come on and you feel it and you see that you're not making progress. You're stuck in one thing, whether it be the tech for your business, or you're stuck trying to figure out some idea or trying to create a product or service and you're kind of stuck on that, or what you know website platforms you should use, or trying to create a product or service, and you're kind of stuck on that, or what you know website platforms you should use, or you know starting a podcast and just all this stuff. Or maybe even you're starting a YouTube channel or trying to do social media and you're getting blogged down with graphics or who knows what it is. But I feel you, I've been there. I've had product businesses, I've had a service business as a photographer, part-time, and now I've had this coaching business. I've had courses, I've had workshops, I've had one-on-one coaching. I get it.
Speaker 3:I've been there in a lot of situations and it can be debilitating. Like let's just be honest, it can right. Like you can feel like you just are paralyzed and can't move, or you feel like you're just spinning rails and you're going nowhere. So today I'm about to reveal to you this simple three-step reset that's going to help you as your first line of defense, because you've got to help yourself right so that you can get out of it. No-transcript available and we have to be able to use coping mechanisms. And then, when you can't, when you cannot cope on your own. You get help, right. Whatever that may be, whether it's a friend, whether it's a business coach, whether it's a mentor, it's someone in your life, a trusted, confidant right, it's therapy. Whatever it is, you do that, okay, because you're on a mission. Right, we're on a mission which is leading me to my three points, which I'm so excited to share with you.
Speaker 3:I want you to write these down. I don't know if you're driving no-transcript what I've used and I help clients use this same three-step process. So here it is. You ready, okay? First one is to breathe. I'm breathing out and in. I don't know if the microphone's going to pick this up in the editing. It may take it out, but I'm going to breathe in, breathe out and take yourself back to your initial mission, when you were dreaming about starting this business.
Speaker 3:Breathe in, breathe out. Take yourself back to the whole reason that you started this business. What mission are you on? So, breathe and think about that mission that you are on. I'm telling you this works Because a lot of times, this is step one, by the way, we have two more steps, but this helps you ground yourself.
Speaker 3:Ground yourself and stop all the noise going on around you that you should be doing this. You should be using this software. You should be showing up here. You need to fix this. You need to fix this text. You need to have a graphic. You need to fix your website. You need to record this. You need to do that. And it's craziness, it's it's pure madness.
Speaker 3:Okay, so let's remove all that and go back to why we started this business and what our mission really is Like. Who are you trying to help? Envision those people that you want to help, so you're going to breathe. Take yourself back to the people that you want to serve, to your mission. You're on a mission to help people in this world. And what is it? It's very simple. It's not a long mission, it's a very simple mission.
Speaker 3:You know, when I think about my mission, just what always comes to mind is I want to give people like you the confidence and skills needed to build a successful business. Like I want to help those of you out there that have been wanting to do this and maybe just hesitant for some reason. You were holding yourself back. I wanted to give you the confidence to do it, the encouragement and the skills, the business skills, to actually make it happen. That's my mission, in the most simple, raw form. Right, it's not a professional mission statement, it's just my mission. That's a mission I'm on.
Speaker 3:I'm just imagining, especially, women out there that are so busy and doing all these things and they've just dreamed of starting a business and they have a talent, they have a gift for something. They actually have a really awesome gift that can be used. They've already helped people probably in their life with it and they've just been a little scared or didn't have the business skills. Maybe they were a teacher or a nurse. They did something totally different and they just needed that nudge, they needed that encouragement and they needed the business skills to make it happen. And that's my mission.
Speaker 3:I'm telling you this because I want you to realize how simple stating your mission in your head can be and to breathe and go back to your mission. That's number one. Breathe and go back to your mission. Okay, I'm lightheaded now. Anyone, anyone else been breathing with me and feel lightheaded? I feel lightheaded now, okay, number two what I want you to do is truly and purely just identify the bottlenecks in your business right now.
Speaker 3:There is a bottleneck. What is it? Is it the tech? Is it the steps? Is it the graphic design, is it the website? Is it? You are just don't feel confident in yourself, like what is actually the bottleneck? And I don't know what it is. For you, identify it. That's all you're doing.
Speaker 3:In step two, you're just calling it out, like let's just call it out, say you know what's really bottlenecking me, the tech, or I just don't know the steps, or I don't know if what I'm doing is right. So I'm overthinking everything and second guessing everything. Maybe it's. I'm stuck in indecision. I don't know if I should be doing this first or this first. I'm stuck with my business name. Some of you get stuck on a business name. You get stuck picking platforms. You get stuck trying to figure out, maybe, if you have a service, how to package it or offer it your pricing. I've seen people go into total madness trying to figure out pricing, like literally have coaching calls just about pricing, because it will freak you out. It will freak you out, I'm not kidding.
Speaker 3:So, identify the bottlenecks. All we're doing is calling them out. We're not trying to solve them, we're not trying to do anything else, we're identifying them. So in the first step we took a breath and we took ourselves back to the mission and now we go okay, I'm on that mission. And then we go to step two and we go okay, wait, what? What's holding me back? What is slowing me down? What's stalling me? What's been stalling me for months Some of you for months, okay, for months? Maybe your bottleneck is that no one around you believes in what you're doing and you've never had a confidant, a guide, a coach or anyone to help you. That's a bottleneck. Again, we're not solving it right now in step two. We're just identifying it.
Speaker 3:But you have to identify, you have to be able to pinpoint it. It's like if I went into the doctor right now and I'm like I'm in pain, and they're like, okay, great, where is it? And what? If I said I'm just in overwhelm and I don't know, the doctor would be like do you need to be in a mental hospital? No, I'm kidding, they wouldn't say that, but they would get to the point Y'all know I'm joking, right. They would get to the point of like, okay, is it in your arm? Is it in your head? Is it in your back? Is it in your feet? Is it your nerves? Is it your muscles? Do you know? Is it your head? Is it your teeth? What is it?
Speaker 3:You would be surprised how many new small business owners, new podcasters, even veteran business owners and podcasters will get in overwhelm but have a hard time articulating what exactly it is. Or they've been hiding behind the shield of overwhelm without actually identifying what's overwhelming. It's like when someone says they're mad and you're like okay, you're mad, what are you mad at? They're like I don't know, I'm just mad. They're just mad and you're trying to figure out. Why are they mad? Why are they in a bad mood? What happened? Did you say something? Is it something in this house? Is it the way I looked at you? Are you mad at your family? Are you mad at me? Like, do you know how hard that is to figure out? What a mystery that is. Don't be a mystery. Identify what it is.
Speaker 3:So think about your business, your situation again, starting a podcast, starting a business. Maybe you're even a veteran and you feel yourself stalled and stuck and overwhelmed and even spinning your wheels. What is the bottleneck? We have to be able to articulate it and identify it. So that's step two.
Speaker 3:So what was step number one? Y'all are already memorizing this. I know you are, you don't even have to write it out. Number one is breathe and go back to your mission. Number two is to identify the bottlenecks, like, truly simply, easily. What are the bottlenecks? Say them, speak them, say them out loud. This is what's holding me back. Okay, we've identified it. Now We've identified the demon. We've got to call it out. It's like an exorcism. No, I'm kidding. Y'all know I'm joking, right? I just want to make sure my sense of humor is a little weird sometimes, but we've got to be able to call it out. Okay, so that's number two. Number three. Number three Give yourself a time frame that you're going to get this figured out and make it good enough.
Speaker 3:Right now, whatever that bottleneck is, you're just going to, you're going to figure it out, or you're going to reach out to someone, maybe even a coach like me, because if you give yourself a timeframe and you still can't fix it, the odds of you fixing it after that timeframe are slim. I am the queen of trying to figure something out and I will just wallow in that misery because it's like our ego saying you can't figure it out. You've got to be able to figure it out and I will wallow in it and work on it and waste hours and hours and days and days. You give yourself a timeline and you say I need to have this done by tonight or tomorrow or maybe. Maybe you're giving yourself a week. I would not give it much longer than that, because I'm telling you it's going to keep going. Here's what you need to do. You need to hire somebody to help you, whether that be somebody to do the work for you, or a coach, a mentor, a guide, a confidant who can give you advice on how to make it good enough and fix it right now yourself, so you can move on.
Speaker 3:Okay, I probably made this step number three sound complicated, but it's not. You are giving yourself a deadline. Okay. So again, step three. You're gonna say, okay, the bottle, you identified the bottleneck. Okay, just say the bottleneck was graphic design. And you just, you're bottlenecked at your logo and you're freaking out and you can't figure out basic logo. You're going to give yourself a deadline and you're going to say, for example, tomorrow by 6 pm, if I don't have a logo, that is good enough. That, honestly, is good enough, like I could show it to someone. And if they're like, yeah, that's good, it's not the best, but it's good enough for right now to get going. I don't have that. I'm going to get on Fiverr or Upwork or one of those sites and I'm going to hire somebody. Or I'm going to ask around somebody that I can hire to do the logo.
Speaker 3:Y'all can post in my Women's Starting Businesses and Podcast Facebook group See if anyone in the group is helping with what you are bottlenecked on. Or you can reach out to someone like me to help guide you and help put some sense into your head and say, ok, we're going to peel this back, we're going to make this simple and you're going to do this right now. Or maybe you're going to scrap what you're doing. I don't know. I don't know what the person is going to say. I don't know what I'm going to say because I don't know your situation, but I often do this in coaching.
Speaker 3:People will come to me bottlenecked right and I will say you know what, we're going to scrap that right now. We're going to scrap it and we're going to go on to something else. Or I'm going to say let me see it, let me see the logo, and I may say that's amazing, that's good enough right now. In the next few weeks you can get on Fiverr, you get somebody to make it even better, whatever. Or I may say you know what you know, it's not that great. I think we need to hire someone to do your graphic design. I will tell you what I think. Okay, but you have to get this off your plate. You have to get this off your plate.
Speaker 3:So step three is about boundaries on yourself to either make it good enough by your own deadline and just say I'm going to go with what I have by tomorrow at 6 pm, or, if I can't do it, I'm going to outsource, I'm going to hire somebody on Fiverr or Upwork or one of those. Or I'm going to get a business coach to help me figure out how I can do this myself and just like, end all this drama. Get a second opinion. Y'all. I get second opinions. I get fifth opinions.
Speaker 3:Y'all know I've been to a bazillion doctors over the past three years since I got COVID. For those of y'all that are new to me, I had a lovely autoimmune pop-up after COVID. It's very soon after. That affects my muscles. Now I can see it's affecting my spine. It's insane. I'm okay, I'm great, I can walk every day, I'm good, but I've got a ton of issues that are coming off of it. Luckily my brain is good and I feel good and I'm happy and I have a great marriage and a great family and all is good. But I just have this bugging issue right. I have gone to now six rheumatologists. I don't care, I keep going until I get the help that I need.
Speaker 3:I'm not going to sit here and wallow in this and go, oh, my hands are hurting, my spine is hurting, it's hurting around my back, and just say that and wallow in that misery. I'm going to say, if I can't fix it with Aleve or Meloxicam or you know medication that I already have, that I'm going to go get extra help and sure enough, we're getting down to it. But my point is you get second opinions for doctors and things like that. You should get second opinions about your business. You should get second opinions. A friend can tell you what they think. That would be your target market. That's awesome. Maybe it's a mentor you have in your life, maybe it's another business owner that you know, that would be fantastic. Or a business coach like me who can give you expert opinion, get you moving and stop all these shenanigans Like you have to stop the shenanigans.
Speaker 3:You are creating a madness for yourself by wallowing in all of this and not setting boundaries. If you are a parent, or even if you're a pet parent, you set boundaries. You don't let your dog just run in the road in front of cars. You say, no, you have to stay inside. Maybe some people have used to have invisible fence. Now there's there's like collars that you can do with, like Bluetooth. They're amazing to keep your dog in a certain area. You know we have boundaries, we have fences in our yard. You have to do this for yourself.
Speaker 3:For some reason, all of us sometimes think, myself included, we don't need boundaries because we have an ego and we're like we can do everything and we'll figure it out. But are you? But are you figuring it out? Are you actually figuring it out? Are you getting past the bottleneck? So give yourself a deadline Deadlines, work Tomorrow by 6 pm. Whatever is there is what I'm going to go with. Is it good enough? If not, I'm going to outsource help or I'm going to get a coach or somebody who's good at this to actually look at it. Give me another opinion. Give me confirmation that I'm doing this right. Help me with the order of things I should be doing. Help me with what I should be doing with my tech, or how my website should look or whatever it is my pricing, my product, my service, packaging, how I should sell it, where I should show up. Should I start a podcast? Should I not start? Please tell me right now that you're not going to sit here and ponder whether you should start a podcast or not.
Speaker 3:If you've been thinking about it for like a year, like reach out, let's talk about it. I'll tell you the truth, based on your life situation and what your business is, whether I think it could be a great podcast or not, and how hard or easy it will be for you, based on this season of your life. You have to put boundaries on yourself. So you're going to put a time boundary or you're going to get help. That's what you're doing. That's step three. Okay, so let's go through the steps, because y'all have memorized this already, right?
Speaker 3:So number one was breathe and go back to your mission. Number two was truly identify the bottlenecks, call them out. We are going to speak their name, whatever they are. And number three is you're going to give yourself a boundary. You're going to stop doing these things by a certain time. By a certain time.
Speaker 3:And if you can't say that this is good enough by the time frame ends and you can't still go forward, then you have to promise me you will reach out and get help. You will either hire someone on Fiverr or Upwork if it's graphics, if it's whatever to do it for you, or ask a friend or ask in the group, or you'll hire a coach like me who can help you figure out and discern what you should do. If it is good enough, it may actually be good enough to go on right now. A lot of times y'all it is. A lot of times it is when I meet with clients I'm like, yeah, that's actually good enough right now. Let's go. It's great, it's cute. It may not be your vision of perfect, but I don't know what your vision is. All I know is I'm seeing it and it looks good. Let's go.
Speaker 3:And then we can be refining and tweaking over the coming weeks and months. Right, if this is, you make sure you reach out. By the way, if you scroll down in the show notes below, there's a link. We can jump on a quick Zoom call and I can just talk to you for a minute just to like kind of identify the bottleneck for you and just kind of talk you through it for a second to see you know, okay, these are your options. And then we could have a one-on-one coaching call after that, right, if you want to.
Speaker 3:So that's what I'm saying. It's that easy. It's that easy, but y'all make it hard, and I do it too. So when I say y'all, I mean me too. I make it hard on myself too. I've had to get plenty of help. I've had to get plenty of second opinions. I've had to have other people look at my stuff and help me and stop me and stop me from my own madness. Right, and the same is for you.
Speaker 3:So again, number one I'm saying them again because I don't know what you're doing and you may not be writing them down. We're going to breathe in and breathe out and we're gonna go back to our mission. Okay, you can remember that with the B breathe back to mission. Number two identify the bottlenecks. So I, number two, is I back to you know, identify the bottlenecks. Number three is to give yourself a deadline. We're going to set boundaries, boundaries, boundaries on when you end and you're going to stop doing it and you're going to get help Either way after that if you can't fix it by the boundary, then you're going to get help, whatever that means for you to get help.
Speaker 3:Okay, so actually it's an acronym B-I-B. Let's do that Breathe, then I is identify the bottlenecks. Actually it could be another B for bottleneck, it could be B-B-B, it could be B-B-B, but we'll do breathe, identify the bottlenecks, we'll do I and then we'll do B, which is boundaries, setting boundaries and then getting help. So B-I-B. I hope you remember that. I hope this helps you. No more overwhelm, no more letting yourself wallow in this misery. It's not fun and it's not good for your business.
